This year, The Nature Conservancy in Maine celebrates 70 years of conservation. Our
chapter was founded in 1956 by a group of dedicated volunteers, including Rachel Carson,
working to conserve special places in Maine. Today, we work with communities all across
the state to bolster the biodiversity of oceans, rivers, and forests while mitigating and
adapting to climate change.

This milestone coincides with TNC’s 75th anniversary globally—a reminder that Maine’s
work both bene昀椀ts from and contributes to conservation efforts around the world.
Lessons learned here have informed global strategies, just as global insights continue to
strengthen conservation practices
in Maine and across the Northeast.

501(c)(3) international membership organization.
Its mission is to conserve the lands and waters
on which all life depends.
The Nature Conservancy meets all of the
Standards for Charity Accountability established by

Alliance is a national charity watchdog a昀케liated
with the Better Business Bureau.
